Well put! It is a principle that we should understand. Though, it's not the easiest to enforce for most, which is evident from the earlier comments and even for me. We just need to look at things in a realistic sense and change the things that we can control to better ourselves and our lives.
In my view though we should help others with service and knowledge...In short this quote put it in perspective,
“As long as there is a man in the world who is hungry, sick, lonely or living in fear, he is my responsibility.” - Albert Schweitzer.
But, if we do try to help others and they still can't change, realistically, it would be one of those things that are out of our control...

This is so true when applied to relationships! When I allowed my husband to be his beautiful, sometimes irritating, sometimes solemn, sometimes uncommunicative self, I became much more open to the times when he's his witty, overly talkative, want me by his side all the time (even when he's typing) self!!

Amen...I'm vibing on this. Just did a post with similar philosophy.
I am not afraid to admit that I got control issues, but I guess the challenge is learning when that control comes in handy and when it doesnt.
